LUCKNOW : Bullet-riddled body of Railway Protection Force sub-inspector (S-I) Pooran Singh Negi was found in bushes near railway yard between Mawaiya crossing and Manak Nagar railway station under Alambagh police station limits late on Tuesday night, said police officials on Wednesday.

They said it was not yet clear whether the sub-inspector has been murdered or he had committed suicide.

“Although there are no signs of struggle at the crime scene but the murder apprehension could not be ruled out at the initial level of investigation,” said a cop who visited the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), central, Somen Barma said the sub-inspector’s body had bullet wound on left side of chest and his service revolver, nine cartridges, mobile phone and wallet was found near the body. He said the body has been sent for postmortem and forensic team was called to examine the spot. He said the victim’s family, who stay in Badarpur, Delhi, has reached Lucknow but was yet to give any complaint so far in the matter.

He said the city police, however, was looking into the matter and will draw a conclusion only on the basis of findings of post-mortem report and opinion given by forensic experts.

A senior RPF official said the sub-inspector was missing since he had left the duty at around 10 pm on Monday. He said the office colleagues started searching for him when he did not join the duty on 10 am on Tuesday.

He said the victim’s mobile phone was ringing when his colleagues dialed on his number but he did not pick the call.
