LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that his government operated 119 sugar mills of the state in corona times and paid a record Rs 1.12 lakh crore to cane farmers. This had never happened before, he said, pointing out that many states did not even have their annual budget to this tune.

Yogi was speaking at the inauguration of the sulphurless sugar plants at Munderwa and Pipraich sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh State Sugar and Sugarcane Development Corporation Limited.

He inaugurated the Munderwa sugar mill plant online from the Pipraich sugar mill complex as the chief minister’s helicopter could not land in Munderwa due to poor visibility and inclement weather conditions.

In the programme organised at Pipraich sugar mill complex, Yogi said that the mills of Pipraich and Munderwa would be the first in the state where sulphur-less, refined sugar would be produced. This refined sugar would reach the world’s largest hotels, hospitals and other institutions which in turn would give a new identity to sugarcane farmers of eastern Uttar Pradesh, he said.

He said that the previous governments plundered the money by selling 21 government sugar mills under a conspiracy but the BJP government was restarting them.

He said that the government would brand the sugar of Pipraich and Munderwa mills and sell it across the world. In a lighter vein, turning to Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan, Yogi said that he took money for promotion of tooth powder brand, but the government would promote these brands of sugar for free. He asked the sugar factories to not stay confined to sugar production but also diversify in producing products like packaged sugarcane juice.
