Fill vacancies on priority, minister tells new AU VC
PRAYAGRAJ: Union minister of state for education, Sanjay Dhotre visited campuses of Allahabad University (AU), Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) and Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) on Friday.
At AU, while addressing the faculty members, the minister stressed upon the importance of outreach programs in creating a chain of knowledge.
He emphasised that AU must connect with schools so that when students come into the university, they are ready for training in higher education.
He also said that ministries like Women and Child Development, Information Technology, Rural Development would like to rope in the university for development projects and framing of policies so that the valuable pool of the knowledge of the faculty members is used in the best national interest.
Expressing his faith under the leadership of the new VC, Prof Sangita Srivastava, Dhotre said that recruitment of new faculty members should be a matter of highest priority.
He also focussed on the need for adoption of villages specifically tribal villages for development and uplift of these areas. This will also help bridge the gap between the cities and the villages, he said.
Earlier, the VC gave a brief of AU’s history and spoke about the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
She stressed upon the fact that there was a need for an urgent shift in the education system. Universities need to impart education which is holistic and meaningful.
She said that her first priority is to begin the recruitment and faculty recruitment cell (FRC) would soon prepare the roster and posts advertised subsequently.
Dean, Research and Development, Prof, SI Rizvi gave a brief presentation of ongoing projects in various departments of AU.
Likewise, at MNNIT, Dhotre, admired the innovations made by the students and the technocrats appreciating that the successful engineer in the changing environment is the one who knows all genres.
At IIIT-A, the minister said that the development of corona vaccine by scientists and doctors in the last seven months in the country shows that the implementation of projects in the Narendra Modi government is completed within stipulated time.
