LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed doctors of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) to start physical OPD services.
Delivering his address on the foundation day celebrations of the institute, he also asked SGPGIMS doctors to start preparing for competition in medical care and research as two more AIIMS would start functioning next year.
All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Gorakhpur and Rae Bareli will start functioning the next year along with the super speciality facility at Banaras Hindu University, which also has the status of AIIMS.
That’s why doctors of PGI, instead of sitting in their rooms, would have to prepare for competition from experts of these institutes, he added.
“When doctors of district hospitals can start OPD, then why are doctors of PGI only available on virtual OPD? This is sending the wrong signal,” the chief minister said. “When janata curfew started, the President and the
Vice-President called me, expressing their worries about the existing health infrastructure in UP. They asked me what would happen when migrants came back to UP. Since then, I have held meetings about Covid-19 daily,” he said.
