Now, KGMU to allow more patients in OPDs
LUCKNOW: In view of increasing patients over the past couple of weeks in the OPD and those put on the wait list, in different departments, the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) administration on Monday relaxed the cap on number of patients in each OPD. It has been decided that the super-speciality departments will now see 75-patients each day, 25 more than what was allowed so far.
An order issued by the KGMU’s chief medical superintendent Prof SN Sankhwar said the department of general surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and medicine will see 150 patients every day.
There are over a dozen super speciality departments on the campus. Patients were getting appointments after many attempts. Since the OPD services resumed on October 19 there were hardly any patients arriving on the campus. Out of the 50 patients allowed per OPD about 35 or 40 came to see doctors.
However, slowly the rush increased and as of now, patients have to wait for at least a week or two before they get appointment for consultation.
For consultation in department of medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, and respiratory medicine there is a waiting period of over 15-days. In orthopaedic and cardiology the waiting time extends over a week though in some departments the waiting period is lesser.
The KGMU and other medical institutes in Lucknow were following the 50-patient per OPD cap where 20-new and 30-follow up patients were being called in each OPD. The usual number of the OPD before pandemic was over 100 in each OPD.
