Champions all: They overcame handicap, achieved excellence

LUCKNOW: Life was all bright for Ram Darash till 2012. A good student, he was looking towards a bright future after completing his B Sc from the Faizabad University.

A year later, his world had turned upside down. He lost his eyesight after a brain tumor surgery that was performed on him. However, he did not lose hope.

He took admission in Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilita­tion University to pursue postgradua­te studies and topped in MA History, securing 82.35 percent marks to bag the chief minister’s gold medal.

Now, he hopes to teach the visually impaired children. “After all that I have gone through in past 7 years, I think I will be better off if I make a career in teaching and help students overcome the difficulti­es of dark world,” said Ram Darash after winning four medals of excellence from governor Anandiben Patel and chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Atul Singh, yet another visually impaired medal winner wants to pursue PhD in History after doing brilliantl­y in his postgradua­te.

Another visually impaired student Sharat Verma, who lost his eyesight at the age of 14 years also excelled in his MA political Science.

He said his family stood by him all these years.

B Tech grads bag medals Rohit Srivastava is the proud recipient of chancellor gold medal and chief minister’s medal passed B Tech civil engineerin­g with 89.5% marks and is presently working with an IT company.

“My parents were very supportive and allowed me to choose my own path. My goal is to clear UPSC and I am doing self studies,” said this resident of Ghazipur.

Aditya Kumar Rawat, B Tech electrical engineerin­g won chancellor’s silver medal and chief minister’s medal by getting 89.36% marks.

His long-term plan is to become an entreprene­ur.

Akansha Singh, B Tech computer Science students won chancellor’s bronze medal and chief minister’s medal.

She got 88.95% marks and is working as software developer with a private company.
