‘NEP will help persons with disability become self-reliant’
LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that the new education policy (NEP) would help persons with disability become self reliant (atmanirbhar) as it never discriminates students on the basis of their disabilities.
“It incorporates traditional knowledge, modern innovation and start-up culture. It mandates special opportunities for persons with disability. The government is making all possible efforts in the interest of Divyang people to make their life happy,” he said praising the New Education Policy 2020 while speaking at the seventh convocation of Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (Dsmnru).
The chief minister thanked Prime minister Narendra Modi for coining the term ‘Divyang’ for persons with disability (PwD) as he realised there’s some divine power among differentlyabled people.
Yogi also showered praise on Dr Shakuntala Misra’s granddaughter Shyamalee Misra for being the first student of this varsity to get a PhD degree. She did her research on ‘law as an instrument of social transformation’ with special reference to the situation of women in India.
“The government has distributed pension to 10.68 lakh persons with disability (PwD) during Covid period. In addition to that, the department of empowerment for persons with disability has distributed tricycles and other equipment to ease the problem of such people,” he said.
Governor Anandiben Patel also praised NEP 2020, saying: “The 10+2 structure in school education will be modified with a new pedagogical and curricular restructuring of 5+3+3+4 covering ages 3-18. There will be multiple entry and exit options for those who wish to leave the course in the middle.”
On the occasion, chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a post office and a postal stamp to mark 11 years of the university.
Chief guest Vishwanath Prasad Tewari, former chairman of Sahitya Akademi, in his convocation address, asked students to live up to the degree they had received.
