UPPCL announces one-time settlement scheme for defaulters

LUCKNOW: Seeking to offer some relief to consumers in pandemic times, the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) on Monday announced ‘Covid-19 One-Time Settlement Scheme (Covid-19 OTS) for defaulters to clear their dues without having to pay any surcharge/interest on them.
Giving the information here energy minister, Shrikant Sharma said all urban and rural commercial, industrial consumers and private institutions could avail the new scheme that would come into effect from December 15 and last till January 26, 2021.
Domestic and agriculture consumers have been kept outside the bonds of the scheme this time. According to the minister, around 27 lakhs domestic and 9 lakhs farmers availed the One-Time Settlement Scheme brought for them last year.
“Our government is giving special impetus to commercial and industrial activities in the state and the OTS introduced on the chief minister’s directives is a step in that direction only,” Sharma said. He said consumers whose power connections remained snapped due to arrears could also apply for the scheme.
Considering the pandemic, the UP Power Corporation Ltd has provided, for the first time the facility to consumers to complete all formalities online to avail theOne-Time Settlement Scheme. They can register themselves for the scheme on the www.upenergy.in by paying 30% of the total dues amount as mentioned in their November bill.
