More ‘Nand Ghars’ to come up in state
LUCKNOW : Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), which has joined hands with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate hunger from India, will set up 500 ‘Nand Ghars’ in UP over the next 12 months.
‘Nand Ghars’ are modern anganwadis with state-of-the-art infrastructure to cater to nutrition and education of underprivileged children and women in rural areas.
These centres, being built on public-private partnership (PPP) basis, would have facilities such as play schools would help children up to the age of six years prepare for admission in government and private schools, said Ritu Jhingon, CEO, Nand Ghar project.
In the first phase of this partnership, the new centres will come up in Amethi and Varanasi.
“Work in these two districts has already begun and will be completed by November 2021. Further expansion is also on the cards, both for Uttar Pradesh and in India,” said Jhingon.
“We are catering to nutrition and education of underprivileged children and women. Nand Ghar project and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will jointly fund the expansion programme in a 50:50 ratio,” she said.
The Nand Ghar project is an initiative by Vedanta group in partnership with the ministry of women and child development (MWCD) to ensure rural India is not left behind in India’s march towards progress. The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF) joined hands with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to set up these new ‘Nand Ghars’.
