Edu vital for a nation’s growth: AU VC
PRAYAGRAJ: Allahabad University (AU) vice chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava said on Tuesday that education was undoubtedly one of the most important factors that impacted the growth and development of a country. It was a tool to shape the future.
Prof Srivastava was delivering the key note address in an international conference on Learning-2020, held in online mode on Tuesday. The conference was organised by Lady Irwin College, New Delhi.
Speaking on ‘Tracing pedagogical trajectory: Emerging educational policies and the new normal’, the VC said that till now, India’s education policy more or less followed the principles laid down in the first policy designed by Lord Macaulay, but now it was being redesigned as the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 which would better reflect Indian culture and vision for the future.
Improvement in education would not only enhance efficiency but also augment the overall quality of life, she said and quoted PM Modi’s line ‘Manuj se Manav’ and ‘Ateet se Adhunikta ki Or’.
She also stressed on extensive research work and product development, saying that a thesis should not lie in a dark room but always have a practical use for society. Meanwhile, the vicechancellor also inspected various buildings of the university, including the International hostel, the Topa complex and the Student Activity Centre.
She advised the contractors for better space utilisation and for construction of a stage on the terrace for cultural events, apart from a badminton court outside.
