LUCKNOW : Four days after Lucknow police attached his house in Krishna Nagar, slain gangster Vikas Dubey’s brother Deep Prakash Dubey on Tuesday surrendered in a city court to evade arrest after which he was sent to Lucknow district jail, said police officials here on Wednesday.

Deep Prakash Dubey was wanted in two FIRs registered against him at Krishna Nagar police station and the state police had announced a reward of ₹20,000 on him.

The first FIR was registered against him for obtaining arms licences and SIM cards on false documents while another FIR for forcibly taking away a vehicle of one Vineet Pandey in 2009 was lodged on July 5. The second FIR was lodged on charges of extortion, dishonesty, forgery of valuable security and using a forged document as genuine.

Lucknow commissioner of police Dhruv Kant Thakur said the police will seek his police custody remand to interrogate him in connection with the two cases pending against him. He said the pressure was mounting on Deep Prakash due to police strictness and frequent raids were being carried at his hideouts across the state following which he surrendered.

Another police official said Deep Prakash had been on the run for over five months and had tried to surrender in the court even in the past but every time his attempt was foiled. He claimed that Deep Prakash succeeded in surrendering in the court with the help of a group of lawyers.

Earlier on Friday, the property of Deep Prakash Dubey was attached after taking permission of a court. His elder brother Vikas Dubey, a dreaded gangster, was killed in police encounter on July 10 earlier this year after he and his men ambushed and killed eight policemen when a police team raided his house in Bikru village of Kanpur on July 3.
