Over 750 startups set up in UP in last one year
LUCKNOW : Despite the Covid pandemic, over 750 startups were set up in Uttar Pradesh during the last one year. As many as 3,406 startups recognised by the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), Government of India, had been established in UP during the last three years, said UP government official.
Referring to the best startup eco-system being developed in the state as a result of efficient implementation of IT and Startup Policy-2017 and New Startup Policy-2020, deputy chief minister and minister of IT and electronics, Dinesh Sharma said,
“The state government is developing a world class startup ecosystem in the state through a strong infrastructure and favorable policy environment.”
Apart from creating employment, the state’s startup policies were promoting innovation and entrepreneurship along with contribution to the state’s economy and empowerment of youth, he said.
Additional chief secretary, IT and electronics, Alok Kumar said despite the Covid-19 pandemic, 773 startups had been established in the last one year from December 2019 to December 2020.
Kumar said under the new Startup Policy-2020, three stateof-the-art centres of excellence would be set up in the state, out of which the first one was being established in Lucknow SGPGI in the medical electronics sector and was expected to be operational soon. The second centre of excellence was being developed in Noida in the sphere of artificial intelligence in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur and FICCI.
The additional chief secretary said an evaluation committee had been constituted under the Startup Policy-2020 to approve applications of startups for incentives.
