LUCKNOW : The city police initiated property attachment proceedings against suspended IPS officer Arvind Sen on Friday as soon as a city court declared him an absconder in connection with a graft case in which he is accused of misusing his post to help fraudsters dupe and threaten an Indore trader Manjit Singh Bhatia.

The court of the special judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) Sandeep Gupta on Thursday declared Sen an absconder under Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as he is wanted in the case for the past six months and carries a reward of ₹25,000 on his head.

Sen, who is 2003 batch state police cadre IPS of deputy inspector general (DIG) rank, was suspended by the state government on August 24 after his name surfaced in the case.

A senior police officer said the court has set a 30-day deadline for Sen to appear before it or else proceedings to confiscate his property and other legal action against him will start.

“Under the same process, the public announcement was made outside Sen’s house at 2/225 Virat Khand, Gomti Nagar, to make him and his family members aware of the court’s decision. The house will be confiscated under the next move under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code believing that the IPS is intentionally avoiding appearing before the court,” he added.

Earlier, Sen had failed to appear before the court despite it having issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him on December 9. The NBW against Sen was issued to arrest him in a corruption case and for his alleged links with fraudsters involved in duping people on the pretext of facilitating government contracts to an Indorebased businessman Manjeet Singh Bhatia.
