CORPORATOR AMONG 5 NABBED FOR ATTACK ON JALKAL GM

PRAYAGRAJ: Khuldabad police on Sunday arrested five persons, including a corporator, in connection with the assault on Jalkal department’s general manager Harishchandra Valmiki at his home on December 25.

It is alleged that the corporator Vinod Sonkar, who is also a history-sheeter, barged inside the house of the official with his accomplices and attacked him.

SHO Khuldabad inspector Vinit Singh said corporator Vinod Sonkar, Anoop Srivastava, Tufail Ahmad, Guddu Vishwakarma and Ajay Hela were arrested late Saturday night.

One Dilip Bhartiya, who is a suspended employee of Jalkal department, had allegedly planned the assault with Sonkar who has around 20 cases lodged against him.

The accused that includes some suspended employees of the department, were angry with the official because of a dispute over some contract was also one of the reasons behind the attack, he said.

The arrested accused had sneaked inside the official’s residence at Khusrubagh office from behind. One of them caught the servant while others assaulted Valmiki with sticks on his legs causing serious injuries to him.

Valmiki was assaulted earlier as well in 2019 by Anoop Srivastava. Anoop’s father was an employee at water works and he has confessed to have attacked the official as he had pulled up his father over some issue.

Valmiki was again admitted to a private hospital after he experienced pain in his legs on Sunday. The Jalkal department staff had urged police officials to ensure their security. Mayor Abhilasha Gupta Nandi has said that instructions have been issued to provide security to the officials and staff of water works department.
