LUCKNOW : As many as 102 out of the 133 Lucknowites with UK travel history had so far tested negative for Covid, stated health department officials after receiving the Covid report of these travellers. They said reports of nine more people were awaited while one person was untraceable.

“Now, we are awaiting report of nine more travellers, which will come by Monday,” said Dr MK Singh, district immunisation officer. Of the 133 who had to be tested after arrival in India/Lucknow between December 9 and 21, none tested positive for Covid till now, he said.

“We also took samples of 157 contacts of the travellers and they too tested negative,” he said. In all, 22 travellers had gone out of Lucknow hence authorities took their samples in districts where they had gone.

The initial list of travellers in Lucknow was 131, but two names were added during the day as two persons who are natives of other districts came to Lucknow and their samples were taken in the state capital.

Of the total travellers, one was not traceable. “We have sent an email to him. Hopefully, we shall get the response and sampling by Monday,” said Singh.

“The news about the need for UK travellers to get tested is widely circulated. Travellers should come on their own to

give sample so that they and their family members can clear doubts and remain safe in hospital, if they test positive,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors.

The state government had

made special arrangements for UK travellers’ Covid treatment in case any one of them tested positive.

The state had asked the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to give a list of travellers who returned from abroad since

November 23. Those who returned till December 9 had to be kept under watch for 28 days while those returning to India since December 9 had to be tested for Covid via RT-PCR. A list of 1,655 overseas travellers had been received in the state.
