LU students campaign for CM’s Mission Shakti
LUCKNOW: Students of the Lucknow University are spearheading the ‘Mission Shakti’ launched by chief minister Yogi Adityanath for empowerment of women. These students are staging plays in different parts of the state to highlight the need for women’s safety and empowerment. They have also planned awareness sessions for school children in urban and rural pockets and will tour the state in a joint effort with the state police.
Professor Rakesh Chandra of Lucknow University who also heads Sanskritiki, the cultural group of LU, informed that the Agra police recently invited a group of students to publicise Mission Shakti in the district. The students were joined by local NGO’s working for women’s empowerment. “Our students have put up various shows in Lucknow and we will continue our efforts to spread awareness about the safety and empowerment of women which is the objective of Mission Shakti,” Chandra said.
Reportedly, as many 50 students of the university, enrolled in various courses and of different years, constitute the core team which is taking the initiative. These students had written small plays and enacted the skits at various places, said the professor. “We try to meet once every week to discuss plans for upcoming tours or events. Considering the Covid-19 pandemic, we do most of our rehearsal at home or online, “said Prateek Mishra, a member of the street play group. Deeksha Sharma another member, said, “Violence against women is a problem which has become part of our culture. We need to change this so that we may give a better future to our coming generations.”Spokesman of Lucknow University Durgesh Srivastav said, “Lucknow university is proud of the students who are spreading the message of women empowerment in the state. The university will continue to support them in every manner.”
