LUCKNOW : All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) national general secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan has said that on January 1 farmers across the country will take an oath on the preamble of the Constitution in support of their demands to repeal three new farm laws introduced by the Centre.

“There is a nationwide agitation of farmers demanding repeal of the three farm laws on January 1 between 10am and 3 pm. Ever since the farm acts were passed in the last six months, farmers in different states and districts are taking out processions, sitting on dharnas, demonstrations, roadblocks and hunger strike to express their opposition to these laws and demanding their rollback,” Anjaan said in a press statement issued on Sunday.

He further said the farmers’ agitation will continue until their demands were met. Anjaan said the All India Kisan Sangarsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) had taken the decision to continue the agitation in phases all over the country in 2021.

“On January 1, farmers will take oath from village to district levels on Constitution for their demands. On December 29 in Patna, they will hold a big demonstration at the governor’s house. On the same day, in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, state’s farmers will hold a demonstration,” he added.

“In North-Eastern states too, farmers’ agitation has gained momentum. In Assam and Manipur, farmers are continuing the agitation and hunger strike in all the districts. On December 30 in Imphal, farmers will hold a demonstration and give the charter of demands to the governor,” he said. Anjaan, who is also a member of AIKSCC’s working group, further said the farmers’ stir was getting popular support.

“The Centre should withdraw the three farm laws and show their concern for the farmers. Farmers have been agitating at the Delhi border for over a month. Forty farmers have so far died for the cause,” Anjaan said.
