LUCKNOW: The health authorities plan to vaccinate an average of 17,000 healthcare workers per day in the state capital against Covid-19 when the vaccine becomes available here, according to officials.

The plan will be boosted by over a dozen private hospitals and medical colleges also being made Covid vaccination centres along with government hospitals, government and other private medical institutes.

“The list of the healthcare workers to be vaccinated in the first phase has crossed the 51,000-mark and we plan to finish their vaccination in three days. The average vaccination per day is targeted at 17,000 beneficiaries,” said Dr MK Singh, district immunisation officer for Lucknow.

Lucknow will have about 50 vaccination centres as per the plan but the number may go up if required. Vaccination will be done twice a week on Monday and Friday. Once it starts, the vaccination of healthcare workers is expected to be completed in over a week’s time in sync with a cycle of Monday, Friday and Monday.

“We have decided to include hospitals with over 100 staff members/beneficiaries as the session site for Covid vaccination. A dozen private hospitals and medical colleges in different areas have been identified,” said Dr MK Singh.

This way, the staff of the hospitals where session sites are planned will be vaccinated without any hassle and they can help cover the healthcare workers in smaller hospitals in their area, said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of the Association of International Doctors.

The data of 51, 000 healthcare workers had been uploaded on a government portal and if more applicants come, they would be added, officials said. Till now, 750 nursing homes, hospitals and 205 government healthcare establishments have registered their data with the office of the CMO, Lucknow. “The mobile number of vaccinators is now being uploaded according to their deployment at vaccination session sites,” said Dr Singh.
