2 Prayagraj students to be part of NSS contingent in R-Day parade

PRAYAGRAJ : Two volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) from Prayagraj Aditi and Rajguru Singh, students of two constituen­t colleges of Allahabad University, will march with fellow volunteers as part of the NSS contingent in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath in New Delhi.

While Aditi is a student of Jagat Taran Girls PG College, Rajguru studies at Iswar Saran PG College. Manju Singh, programme coordinato­r of NSS at AU, said one has to go through a long process of selection spanning over three months to be able to participat­e in the R-Day parade. “For this, the NSS volunteers are tested at group level and later at inter-group level competitio­ns. Volunteers have to show their physical skills along with mental strength before they are finally selected,” she said.

As per prof Anand Shankar Singh, principal, Iswar Saran College, Rajguru, who hails from Mau district, has special expertise in yoga with an equal skill in playing Dholak and a special instrument called ‘Anak’ (an instrument resembling drum). He also holds an impressive record in academics.

“The college has so far given eight students for R-Day parade and Ashiya Bano of the college was even conferred Indira Gandhi National award in 2013 by the then President Pranab Mukherjee”, said dean student welfare and NSS in-charge of the college, Suman Agarwal.

“Aditi too is a promising student and her achievemen­t has made the entire college proud,” says Kamla Dubey, principal of the college. AU vice chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava and registrar Prof NK Shukla have extended their wishes to the two students. Dean, College and Developmen­t (CDC), Prof Pankaj Kumar and principals of both the college have also congratula­ted the young achievers.
