16 more deaths, 945 fresh cases in state

Six more succumb to Covid in Lucknow, 213 test positive

LUCKNOW : Lucknow continued to report the maximum number of fresh Covid cases and fatalities, while Uttar Pradesh registered a further dip in the daily case count on Monday.

During the day, the state capital logged 213 fresh cases and saw the maximum deaths – six. UP’s infection tally reached 5,82,920 with 945 fresh cases, the lowest since July while the fatality count rose to 8,322 with 16 more deaths.

On Sunday, the state had reported 952 fresh cases, according to the health department.

During the day, Kanpur and Prayagraj logged 30 cases each, Ghaziabad 68, Gautam Buddh Nagar 27, Meerut 54 and Varanasi 51. Prayagraj and Varanasi saw two deaths each, Ghaziabad and Meerut one each.

Lucknow had till now reported 77,872 Covid cases, which was 13.35% of the state’s total cases. As many as 73,904 patients in Lucknow had recovered while 1,110 people suc

cumbed to Covid. “The recovery rate in Lucknow is 94.90%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors. In all, 203 patients were discharged. Senior health officials conducted an inspection of the district’s cold chain unit in Aishbagh and took stock of the arrangements.

A high level meeting was held here on Monday to discuss the high number of fresh Covid cases being reported in Lucknow. It was decided that the help of police department will be taken to contain movement in containment zones. Cops will be handed over the list of such areas to be monitored. At present, Lucknow has over 1,000 containment zones. Lucknow is the only district in UP to have a three-digit daily case count while all others are reporting below 100 cases since over a week.
