PRAYAGRAJ : Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya inspected the Magh Mela preparations here on Tuesday. He was not satisfied by the cleanliness of the area and asked officials to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of the entire mela area.

While the deputy CM was inspecting the mela area, a group of roadside women vendors, who stay in and around the mela area and eke out a living by selling small items, also met him.

The women demanded that earlier they were somehow managing their families by nominal earnings from Sangam area but now they had been asked to leave the mela area by the administration in light of the 57-day fair starting January 14.

Maurya informed them about the strict protocols that had to be followed in the mela area in view of the pandemic. He also tried to assure them that it was for their own benefit and safety but they were adamant on their demand.

The Deputy CM later assured them that he would look into the issue and see what he could do for them.

He offered prayers to the Ganga and fed migratory birds. He asked the administrative officials present there about the arrangements related to the fair.

The deputy CM also visited Akshayavat (sacred fig tree located within the Patalpuri Temple at the Prayagraj Fort) and Bade Hanumanji temple.

Later, Maurya reached Durvasa Ashram in Jamunipur and offered prayers while participating in a programme organised there.

After this, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 44 projects of public works department under Phulpur assembly constituency. He also laid the foundation stone of a total of 11 works proposed for road construction and repair.
