PRAYAGRAJ: Bright sunshine and moderately chilly conditions was the perfect combination for fun-lovers of Prayagraj, who stepped out in large numbers and welcomed the first day of the New Year, on Friday.

Despite the mandatory Covid-19 precautions, locals including children and women thronged parks, restaurants, shopping malls and roadside eateries.

For scores of revellers, who were waiting for the arrival of the New Year, celebrations remained low-key owing to administrative restrictions. But people in different colonies, apartments, clubs and other residential areas made arrangements to keep everyone safe and enjoying the day as well.

Young girls and boys came out in large numbers to welcome the New Year and make the day special with friends and relatives. They exchanged gifts, wished each other and enjoyed the day at several places in the city.

Be it Chandrashekhar Azad Park, Sangam area, Minto Park, Boat Club, Saraswati Ghat as well as malls in posh Civil Lines or small and big hotels and restaurants of the city, youth and families were seen all day through. Some groups were seen enjoying the day with family members arranging picnics at various popular spots, both within the city and nearby areas.

“Every year, we make it a point to make the day special by visiting different tourist pla

ces around Prayagraj including Sitamarhi, Windom falls, Shringverpuram, Vidyachal,

Kada Dham etc which gives us a break from hectic schedules and enjoy the day with our

friends and family,” said Mohit Mishra, an employee at a private firm.
