LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the Covid-19 vaccine would be available in Uttar Pradesh and the rest of the country around the Makar Sankranti festival that falls on January 14.

The chief minister was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a multi-storeyed lawyers’ building on the Gorakhpur collectorate campus, a government statement said. “For the last 10 months when major countries like America and Britain are battling the global pandemic, our state, as well as the country, has overcome it under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

Observing that the dry run of the vaccination was carried out in six places on Saturday, he said the exercise would be held in the entire state on January 5.

After that, “we can say with confidence we will bring the vaccine in UP, and the country around Makar Sankranti,” he added.

He also said: “We are close to defeating the coronavirus in UP through our collective efforts and WHO (World Health Organisation) has also appreciated us because of the best outcome of corona control in the most populous state. Two months ago, there were more than 68,000 active cases of coronavirus disease in UP and today it has come down to 13,000 as on date. The recovery rate of corona in UP is best at 97% and the death rate is around 1%. Efforts are on to bring it down further. Soon, we will conquer this pandemic totally.”

Talking about lawyers’ issues, he said, “All the tehsils of the state would soon be equipped with advocate chambers and the beginning has been made from Gorakhpur. These chambers are not just built for lawyers, but they will also become a platform for the common man to get justice. This is actually the beginning of the work for providing justice to victims.”

The chief minister also said the state government had decided to bring all the divisional and departmental offices into a unified building and the process had started from the Gorakhpur and Varanasi Commissionerate.

“With this, the public and the advocates will get all the facilities at one place. Arrangements will also be made for a canteen so that people coming from the villages could get food at cheaper rates. Like divisional offices, the district level offices will also be brought into a single integrated building,” the chief minister said.
