4,000 young farmers in UP to get tips on improving income
LUCKNOW: Central Institute of Subtropical Horticultural (CISH) and Central Institute of Medical and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) will train over 4000 young farmers of the state in cooperation with UP government to improve their income and employability.
The move is planned under the state government’s scheme to impart commercial training to improve income of farmers. As per plan, the institutes will train young farmers in various aspects of commercial farming.
Director of CISH Shailendra Rajan said, “We aim to plan a week or fortnight-long course on horticultural that will include farming of vegetables and fruits. This will help farmers make farming more economically viable. Our faculty has started designing such courses for the young farmers.” CISH will train farmers in strawberry, mushroom, peach, mango, banana and Jamun farming. Similarly, at CIMAP these young farmers will learn about farming of aromatic crops like palma rosa, vetiver, lemon grass, mint etc.
As per plan these farmers will visit the Institute in Lucknow in small batches for the training. Selection of farmers for the course will be done at district level. “There is a need to incorporate aspects of commercial farming with traditional farming for better financial returns. This will make the farmers more economically self-dependent,” said director of CIMAP PK Trivedi.
“The farmers will also be informed about various government schemes which they can use for their new farming venture,” said Rajan. The course is expected to begin from March this year.
