LUCKNOW: The state police are chalking out a high security plan for the Covid-19 vaccination drive to begin soon, said a senior police official here on Saturday. He said the security plan will include high security at the storage points of vaccine, security for its safe and hasslefree transportation, as well as security at vaccination centres.

The official said that proper route charts are being prepared for the transportation of vaccines from storage places to designated vaccination centres. “We are also chalking out the security drill at storage facilities as well as vaccination centres and during the transportation process,” he said and added, “Proper standard operating procedures will be made to ensure that no lapses are reported on the part of the police”. He said the security drill and the SOPs for rural and urban areas will be a little different.

He said the process has begun to select police personnel for the entire programme as it is expected that the vaccination drive will last long. He said the selected personnel will be briefed about the security drill and the SOPs well in advance.

Lucknow joint commissioner of police (law and order) Naveen Arora said that the Lucknow police is ready to handle vaccination-drive duty effectively as they had done it during the Covid-19 infection outbreak. He said tha the police is coordinating with medical authorities as well as the district administration to provide all facilities required on the security front.

Arora said the main duty point will provide security at storage centres where alertness is required round the clock. “We are drawing up a shift-wise duty chart at the storage centres while fixed teams will be there for a hassle-free transportation process and the security arrangements at the vaccination centres will be from the police station concerned under which limits the centre falls,” he explained.
