Skill training programme to make Kaushambi jail inmates self-reliant

PRAYAGRAJ: Kaushambi jail administra­tion has organised an agricultur­e skill training programme for inmates. Prisoners are being imparted skills in agricultur­e and other trades so that they become self-dependent after being released from the jail.

The agricultur­e training programme under the Pradhanman­tri Kaushal Vikas Yojna was recently inaugurate­d by Kaushambi jail superinten­dent BS Mukund.

According to the jail administra­tion, the training is being provided to jail inmates in batches of 35 at a time. The trained prisoners will also be provided loan to start their own business so that they can earn living on their own instead of indulging in crimes and other illegal activities.

The prisoners who do not own agricultur­al fields will also be given tips to earn living through agricultur­e products and agro-based business.

Trainer Atramram Giri said prisoners were being taught different agricultur­al techniques and how they could grow more crops in less area of land and lesser work. The prisoners were also being informed about different schemes of the government to promote farming and encourage agricultur­al activities, he said.

BS Mukund said that the prisoners would be given certificat­e after completion of their training session which would help them in their future endeavors.

Recently, the prisoners have turned barren lands of Kaushambi jail into fertile to grow vegetables. Earlier, prisoners had also been given training for different skills under Kaushal Vikas Yojna to help them join main stream of the society.
