AU students unsuccessful in 2 papers to get back paper facility

PRAYAGRAJ: If a student of Allahabad University (AU) or any of its constituent colleges fails in two subjects in the final exam of their undergraduate course this year, they will get another chance to pass the exam through back or second examinations.

This relaxation has been extended to students in view of the present Covid-19 crisis that has affected studies and as such would be a one-time opportunity for students during this academic year only, AU officials said. Earlier, if a student failed in one subject, he/she was considered eligible for another chance to appear in the exam of the subject concerned as back paper/ exam in that very year. Whereas, if the student failed in more than one subject, he/she was considered as failed.

A decision in this regard was taken at an important meeting of the examination committee, chaired by AU vice-chancellor Sangita Srivastava, held in her office on Thursday.

Controller of examinations Ramendra Kumar Singh said that students who fail in even two subjects this time would be able to appear in the exam for passing in the said subjects in form of back exams. However, if a student has cleared the exam and wants to go for improvement of marks, be it in one or two subjects, he/she will be able to appear for them but with the main examination of the year (April 2021). Along with this, students of the semester system will now have to be involved at one stage in internal assessment. Earlier, students of the semester system used to undergo an internal assessment of 40 marks through either T-1 or T-2 and mid-semester exams. Now, instead of these three, one examination will be conducted and the marks will be awarded as internal assessment marks. AU public relations officer Jaya Kapoor said that the online mode of examination for the final year of graduation and final semester of PG, Law and professional courses has been conducted in the Corona era. Its results have also been declared. Now back exams are being conducted for unsuccessful and absent students in examinations in which the above mentioned this new clause will be implemented. The second examination (back paper) will be from January 21 for students who failed in the final semester and final year examination. The programme for the annual examination will be released after back exams. The CoE said that final exams of undergraduate, postgraduate, law and professional courses will be conducted offline. The semester examination for PG, Law and Business administration courses will start from March 15.
