Sonbhadra asks traders not to get poultry products from MP

VARANASI : The animal husbandry department in Sonbhadra district of eastern Uttar Pradesh on Saturday asked farmers and traders dealing in poultry products not to transport chickens and other poultry products from the adjoining state of Madhya Pradesh, an official said.

The step was taken as a precaution­ary measure to keep bird flu away from the district. Madhya Pradesh is one of the states where bird flu has been confirmed.

Chief veterinary officer, Sonbhadra, Dr AK Srivastava said, “No case of bird flu has been found in Sonbhadra so far. However, as a precaution­ary measure, poultry farm owners and those who are in the business of poultry products have been asked not to transport chickens and poultry products from Madhya Pradesh.”

Dr AK Srivastava said four rapid response teams, each comprising four members, had been constitute­d in four tehsils of the district in eastern UP. These teams were instructed to be on alert and create awareness among poultry farmers about measures to keep the bird flu away.

The rapid response team in Beejpur area of Sonbhadra had been asked to pay special focus in creating awareness in the areas sharing the border with Madhya Pradesh, Dr Srivastava said.

85 SAMPLES COLLECTED FROM POULTRY FARMS IN VARANASI
