Jeweller shot dead, cash, jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh looted

PRAYAGRAJ : Armed miscreants shot and killed a jeweller and looted cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 10 lakh from Patti area of Pratapgarh district, on Saturday evening. The miscreants also injured the brother of the slain jeweller, hitting him with the butt of a handgun when he tried to resist the loot, police said.

Patti circle officer Prabhat Kumar said that Ahmed, 35, a resident of Raipur Road in Patti Bazaar, along with his elder brother, Mustakim (42), ran a jewellery shop in Patti Chowk area. As usual, the two brothers closed their shop on Saturday evening and were returning home by bike when three miscreants on a motorcycle waylaid them near Raipur culvert, some distance from their home. Ahmed was driving the bike and Mustakim was riding pillion, carrying a bag containing the jewellery.

A miscreant shot Ahmed in the head with a handgun. When Ahmad fell from the bike, the miscreants tried to snatch the bag of jewellery from Mustakim who refused to let go of it. The miscreants hit him on the head with the butt of their handgun leaving him injured and bleeding before fleeing the site with the bag and towards Patti area.

Hearing the gunshot, locals rushed out and informed the family of the two brothers and the police. Both the victims were rushed to the nearby community health centre at Patti from where doctors referred both of them to the district hospital. Here the doctors declared
