Mission Shakti: National Youth Day to celebrate women achievers
LUCKNOW : The National Youth Day, slated to be marked on January 12 (to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand), will be all about celebrating the feats of women achievers in different fields.
Under the Mission Shakti campaign, the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad is planning to celebrate the day by holding interactive sessions with girl students across the state and discussing the life and achievements of women in different fields.
The department has also planned to hold other events in January such as discussions on issues related to adolescence. In one of the sessions, the department will motivate girl students to become financially independent by holding interactions with successful women entrepreneurs and self-help groups.
On the days to follow, videos based on training for self-defence will be telecast on Doordarshan which will further help students get basic training.
Meanwhile, the social welfare department took up the cause to sensitise women to speak up against gender discrimination and also develop a strong opinion against any kind of social evil. seminars held on the day across the state, girls will be told about the constitutional and legal remedies against gender discrimination.
“The Constitution grants equal rights to all citizens of the country and women using their right to franchise is covered under it. Besides, the Directive Principles of State Policy also provide many such provisions that protects women against any kind of discrimination,” said an official with the education department.
Discussion on female foeticide held
Gender equality is a huge challenge for a country like India and many countries, including India, have included it in their sustainable development goals, said experts.
In the state capital, the Panchayati Raj Department held discussions on female foeticide with the villagers at gram panchayat Barumau in the Chinhat block on Wednesday.
Several people participated in the event.
