FOUR CRIMINALS PLANNING TO ROB BANK NABBED

PRAYAGRAJ: The trans-Yamuna team of the crime branch arrested four criminals while they were planning to commit a robbery at a bank in Karchana area late on Friday night. Police recovered live bullets, crude bombs, gas cutters, gas cylinders etc from the accused.

SP (trans-Yamun) Saurabh Dixit said that the action followed while police teams were out on routine patrolling and reached near Channi pond under Karchana police station area. “When the police team comprising policemen from Karchana police station and the crime branch arrived at the site, the miscreants started firing at the police forcing them to fire back in self-defence,” he said.

Two of the criminals sustained gunshot injuries in their legs and were arrested while two others were nabbed by the police during cordoning off the area. However, fifth member of the gang managed to escape from the spot and a hunt was on to nab him, he said. In this shoot out, Jia-ul-Sheikh and Imran Sheikh, both residents of Sahebganj in Jharkhand, sustained bullet injuries in their legs. They were rushed to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

At the same time, their two aides Afroz and Tafazul were also caught from the spot. Interrogat­ion revealed that Jia-ul-Shiekh was involved in the theft of jewelry worth more than Rs 73 lakh from Bhola Jewellers’ shop in the Kotwali area of the city two years ago. He had received more than 1 kg of gold jewellery for his role in the crime.
