PM likely to interact with vax beneficiary in Varanasi
A hundred people, who already been identified, will be vaccinated at each of the six centres, the DM said
VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to interact with a Covid vaccine beneficiary, a fourth class employee of health department, who will get the first jab at Government Women’s Hospital here when the nationwide vaccination drive kicks off on Saturday, the district magistrate said .
After inspecting the hospital, district magistrate Kaushalraj Sharma said the vaccination will be done at six centres, including four in city and two in rural areas, for which all preparations were complete.
Vaccination centres in the city are Government Women’s Hospital (Kabir Chaura), Pt Deendayal Government District Hospital (Pandeypur), Heritage Medical College (Bhadaur), SSL Hospital-BHU in urban areas and Community health centre (Vidyapeeth block) and CHC Sevapuri (rural areas) on the first day of the vaccination.
Sharma said the vaccination will begin after the Prime Minister’s address. Health workers have been called in batches of 25. A hundred people, who already been identified, will be vaccinated at each centre. Thus, 600 health workers will be vaccinated at 6 centres on first day.
“Among the health workers, first, class IV employees who have worked hard to serve Covid patients will be vaccinated. Thereafter, class-III employees, Class-II personnel and then doctors will be vaccinated,” he said.
He also reviewed preparations at the waiting hall, vaccination room, observation room, AEFI (adverse event following immunisation) and also arrangements of video conferencing at the Government Women’s Hospital.
In order to deal with any crisis, an emergency room has also been set up in this hospital. A team of doctors, including anaesthetists and medical staff have been deployed at the emergency room. Besides, a specialisation centre has also been set up at BHU.
Vaccination will be done monitored by a magistrate at each centre.
Varanasi chief medical officer VB Singh said a message was sent to 600 health workers to reach the centres on time.
A consignment of 1.85 lakh doses of Covid vaccines arrived in Varanasi on Wednesday for 14 districts in four divisions, including Azamgarh, Allahabad, Varanasi and Mirzapur.
Of them, 20,980 doses are for Varanasi, said district immunisation officer VS Rai. The vaccine will reach the centres by 9 am on Saturday under police security, he said.
Dr Singh said earlier, it was planned that 1,200 health workers will be vaccinated on first day. But at the instruction of the government, plan was changed. Now vaccination will be done at the six centres and at each centre, 100 health workers would be vaccinated.
