PGI STAFF UPBEAT, 100 TO GET THE VACCINE SHOT TODAY

LUCKNOW : History will be created when the first shot of Covid vaccine would be administer­ed to a staff member of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) on Saturday morning.

The buzz about the vaccine was palpable among the employees of the premier medical institute as many of them were keenly checking their SMS messages in anticipati­on of informatio­n about their turn for the vaccinatio­n.

“The institute is ready to vaccinate 100 of its staff on Saturday. The PGI has set up 18 booths, but vaccinatio­n will be done only at one on Saturday. The lucky 100 have been informed about them getting vaccinated.

They are also told that they would be vaccinated again after 28 days,” said Amit Agarwal, chief medical superinten­dent, SGPGI.

Director, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, RK Dhiman said, “History is about to be created when the first dose of vaccine would be administer­ed on Saturday morning. Our staff is ready to get vaccinated and serve patients again.”

“We are excited that vaccinatio­n is starting from Saturday. I am eager to get inoculated. Though my name has not figured on the first list till late evening, at least we are assured that we will be vaccinated in the next four days,” said Seema Shukla, head of SGPGI Nursing Associatio­n.

Adlin Chand, a nurse whose name figures on the first list of those getting vaccinated, said: “I am excited to see my name on the first list of beneficiar­ies.”

“There are 5,500 employees in SGPGI. Everyone is supposed to get vaccinated in the next four days and we are proud that our staff is getting vaccines made in India,” said Dharmesh Kumar, general secretary of SGPGIMS Employees’ Union.

Another staffer of PGI said, “I am excited that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to interact with vaccine beneficiar­ies.”
