UTTAR PRADESH GI PRODUCTS’ EXPO BEGINS IN KASHI
VARANASI : The Uttar Pradesh GI Products’ Exhibition 2021 got under way at Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre here on Monday to promote GI products of the state across the country.
A total of 28 GI products have been displayed in the exhibition that will conclude till January 24. A geographical indication (GI) is a sign or tag used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
UP Export Promotion Council, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) are jointly organising the exhibition. “This physical and virtual exhibition is providing a very effective platform for interaction between national and international buyers and sellers,” said joint commissioner, industries, Umesh Singh.
“The vendors, who are participating in this exhibition, have sold their products well due to GI tag even during the corona crisis. The government’s vocal for local drive have started yielding desired results,” he added. During a technical session, Padma Shri Dr Rajinikanth explained in detail the history of GI certification, struggle and its journey.
“Collective and holistic efforts are needed to promote and protect GI products with serious efforts for developing the international market of GI products. More events like Uttar Pradesh GI Products’ Expo 2021 should be organised in near future,” he said.
