PAIN, HARDNESS OF SKIN NO REASON TO WORRY: EXPERTS
LUCKNOW: Hardness of skin, pain or itching on the injection site after vaccination were common reactions in any inoculation and should not make a beneficiary worry, said doctors.
“I myself have pain and hardness of the skin, which is normal after any vaccination. I have been working ever since I came out of the vaccination centre and I am fine even with a little pain for which I took no medication,” said Prof Surya Kant, head of the department of respiratory medicine at
King George’s Medical University (KGMU) here.
Prof Surya Kant was the first among doctors to take the jab at KGMU on January 16. Fever, itching or even nausea to some could be said to be “safe reactions” and should not worry the beneficiaries, said Prof Kauser Usman, senior faculty in the department of medicine at KGMU, where one of the 12 vaccination centres had been set up in the state capital.
Pain, itching and hardness of skin were local reactions while fever was a general reaction, the doctors said.
“Vaccine is a foreign protein and, being foreign to the body, some reactions happen, which is normal. We can say a reaction is adverse if there is active medical intervention required,” said Prof Usman.
Asked about some people complaining about feeling low post vaccination, Prof Usman said, “Feelings have nothing to do with vaccine. They are emotional issues.”
Sunil Yadav, president of the pharmacist federation and general secretary of Indian Pharmacist Association, UP chapter, said, “People should follow what doctors tell them and should avoid listening to myths and rumours.”
