Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South, Ravi

Kumar said deceased’s brother Pradeep Awasthi alias Annu had confessed during quizzing that his sister was a burden on him and he wanted to get rid of her following which he hatched the conspiracy.

Kumar said the knife used in the murder was recovered from the bushes near the crime spot.

The DCP said the accused took her sister to the orchard during wee hours on Sunday and slit her throat with the knife. He later returned back home and slept in his room. The body was later found in the orchard on Sunday morning.

Kumar said the police had suspicion on the accused when it was discovered that he had cooked up a story of selling a land in Gudamba for ₹85 lakh and giving it to two brothers Khursheed and Salman staying in his neighbourhood to keep it safely.

“Pradeep, who is also a complainant in the FIR lodged in the matter, had alleged that the two brothers had killed her sister as they did not want to return his money. But the police found during investigation that the accused had no land in Gudamba,” he added.

The DCP said Pradeep was sent to jail while the investigation about the involvement of his younger brother Sandeep Awasthi alias Anshu was on.

“It is yet to be verified why Sandeep did not inform the police about the false story about the land sale narrated by the elder brother in front of the police,” he added.

THE KNIFE USED IN THE MURDER WAS RECOVERED FROM THE BUSHES NEAR THE CRIME SPOT.
