LUCKNOW : Over 57% of the healthcare workers in Lucknow took the vaccine shots on Friday during round two of the Covid vaccination drive for 8,354 beneficiaries. In all, 4,833 turned up to get the jab, while about 42% (3,521) missed vaccination.

As many as 337 people (56.16%) turned up for the covaxin shots, said officials.

“There were no adverse reactions after the vaccination and no wastage of vaccine vials in Lucknow,” said Dr MK Singh, in-charge of vaccination in Lucknow, who also got vaccinated.

In all, 2,788 males and 2,045 females got vaccinated in Lucknow.

In the first round for 1,200 beneficiaries on January 16,845 (70.41%) were vaccinated at 12 vaccination centres. In both the rounds now, 3,876 health workers have missed the vaccination in Lucknow.

“A large number of anganwadi workers out of the 2,400 listed for vaccination could not turn up for vaccination among other health workers in the district. We will look into the reasons behind it and ensure that the turnout improves in the next round,” said Dr MK Singh, in-charge of vaccination in Lucknow, who also got vaccinated.

Covaxin was to be administered to 600 health workers at three hospitals -- Lok Bandhu, Civil and the Rani Laxmibai hospital (200 each) with two vaccination session sites/booths set up at each hospital.

The maximum beneficiaries (154) turned up at the Lok Bandhu

hospital, while 107 came to Rani Laxmibai hospital and least 74 visited Civil Hospital.

“We had explained about the vaccination to all beneficiaries and majority came to get the jab today,” said Dr Amita Yadav, chief medical superintendent,

Lok Bandhu hospital.

Among those who shared their images on social medical after vaccination to give a positive message included Prof Ajai Singh, HoD, paediatric orthopaedic at the KGMU; Rajiv Kanaujia, chief pharmacist at the secretariat dispensary; Yogesh Raghuvanshi, spokesperson of the office of chief medical officer of Lucknow.

Experts said better coordination with health workers could improve the vaccination percentage. “The beneficiaries are informed about the vaccine in advance, but experts also hold a few sessions with health workers in different hospitals. The percentage can certainly go up in the next round on January 28,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors.

Next week, the vaccination will be conducted on January 28 and 29.

One of the vaccination session sites at Balrampur hospital was the top scorer. Of the targeted 100 beneficiaries, 99 were vaccinated here at the second booth. KGMU vaccinated 499 out of the targeted 700 beneficiaries while Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences vaccinated 297 out of targeted 500. At Balrampur Hospital, 258 out of 300 beneficiaries were vaccinated, Civil (Mahanagar) Hospital 161 out of 200 and at Era Medical College, 307 were vaccinated out of 400.

Those vaccinated with Covaxin were made to read a page where the known side-effects of vaccination were written. The document was shown to all those who were vaccinated.
