On way to Delhi, Sardar Sena members taken into custody
VARANASI: Members of Sardar Sena staged a demonstration in Lanka area of Varanasi after they were stopped from visiting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public relation office in Jawahar Nagar on Sunday to submit a memorandum listing their demands related to purchase of agri produce at minimum support price (MSP) guarantee law.
Over two dozen members of Sardar Sena were taken into custody and sent to reserve police lines.
National president of Sardar Sena Dr RS Patel a large number of members of their organisation from Chandauli district in Eastern UP on Sunday started for Delhi border to join agitating farmers there but were stopped in Varanasi.
“It was then we decided to march towards public relation office of PM Modi in Jawahar Nagar area of Varanasi, but we were detained in Lanka area and sent to police lines,” said Patel.
Dr Patel said that the Sardar Sena demands agri produce purchasing at minimum support price (MSP) guarantee law so order that farmers could get a guarantee that their produce would be purchased at MSP.
“The law should have provision of action in case anyone is caught purchasing agri produce below the MSP,” he said while extending support to the agitating farmers and their cause.
Dr Patel also announced that Sardar Sainiks would participate in tractor parade.
A police officer confirmed that some members of Sardar Sena were taken into custody.
