Ignou’s Tharu learners cynosure of all eyes

LUCKNOW: During full dress rehearsal of Republic Day parade here on Sunday, Tharu tribal learners of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre (IGNOU), Lucknow were the cynosure of all eyes as they gave a memorable performanc­e outside the Vidhan Bhawan. To note, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitarie­s will witnessing their performanc­e on R-Day.

The team of 85 members which included women belonging to Tharu tribe, NSS volunteers and other learners of IGNOU participat­ed on this occasion. The Tharu students who belonged to Imiliya Kodar, Pachhpedwa Block, Balrampur are the students of IGNOU Study Centre – Deen Dayal Research Institute, Balrampur. The participan­ts also raised slogans highlighti­ng the importance of higher education and self-defence.

The IGNOU Regional Centre, Lucknow team, in collaborat­ion with Deen Dayal Research Institute, Gonda, Pencak Silat Sports Associatio­n, UP, Lucknow and Babu Sunder Singh Institute of Technology and Management, Lucknow gave a performanc­e on the theme ‘Shiksha Aur Atmaraksha Prashiksha­n Ke Madhyam se Balika Sashktikar­an’ during full dress rehearsal of Republic Day on Sunday.

Kirti Vikram Singh, assistant regional director and team leader on behalf of IGNOU said to motivate the tribal and other students of deprived sections of society, the IGNOU Regional Centre, Lucknow planned this performanc­e, so that the message regarding importance of education and self-defence for women empowermen­t could percolate to the masses.

Manorama Singh, regional director said that the entire team was getting free training in the Reserve Police Lines for the past 15 days by the Penchek Shilat Sports Associatio­n, UP, Lucknow.

Jaspal Singh, working president of UP Pencak Silat Sports Associatio­n, Lucknow said that this performanc­e was dedicated to Mission Shakti being run by the state government. He added that all the participan­ts were giving their best to make this performanc­e memorable.
