PRAYAGRAJ: A special postal cover would soon immortalize the Uttar Pradesh’s award-winning tableau that won praises at this year’s Republic Day parade in New Delhi. Sangam Philatelic Club and Department of Posts have started efforts to come out with the special postal cover on Ram temple, said officials.

The tableau, depicting the Ram Temple, was adjudged the best and awarded by Union minister Kiren Rijiju on January 28. The theme of the UP’s tableau was “Ayodhya: Cultural Heritage of Uttar Pradesh”.

“The plan is to issue the special postal cover by March 2021 and donate the funds generated through its sale for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya,” said M Gulrez, general secretary of Sangam Philatelic Club.

“The design of the proposed special postal cover is being prepared by our team. The documents will soon be sent to Chief Post Master General (CPMG)-Lucknow for approval,” he added.

Gulrez said that the plan is to print 5,000 to 10,000 of these special postal covers as part of the initiative. However, the final numbers and the cost of the cover would be decided only after the approval of the proposal by the department of Posts in this regard, he said.

This will not be the first time that Sangam Philatelic Club and Department of Posts are planning to come out with such special postal cover on Lord Ram. A special postal cover, in honour “Shri Ramlala Temple’ of Ayodhya, was released at the head post office, Civil Lines of Sangam city, on the eve of the festival of Diwali in November 2020. The cover had the picture of the temple of the Baal Roop Ramlala at Ayodhya. The special cover was conceived by M Gulrez and designed by designer Rajiv Mishra of Sangam city.
