Shot in Prayagraj, a short film on transgender set for Net release
PRAYAGRAJ: A short movie based on transgender community shot in Prayagraj will soon be available on OTT platform.
The 50-minutes movie “Tara” was recently shown at a programme at NCZCC here in Sangam City.
“Majority of the artist who played roles in the short movie, including its playback singers, are from transgender community. The movie is sure to change the mindset of people towards transgender who are still to be accepted as normal beings in the society,” said Varun Kumar, the director of the movie.
The script of the movie is written by social activist Nazim Ansari who has been working for transgender community for several years. Besides Ansari has also produced the movie using his own resources and gave chance to local artists who have returned from Mumbai during lockdown period.
“My own outlook towards transgender community changed when I first met Kshama Kinnar of Barabanki who was a friend of my motherin-law. She treated me as her own son-in-law and first time I felt that transgender were as normal as any other person. Since then, I started treating transgender as normal beings and decided to work for their acceptance in the society. The movie is a part of mission to provide dignity to the transgender community” Nazim shared.
The movie is based on a transgender Tara who wants to become a teacher. She fulfilled her dreams and joined a school but was not accepted there. A shocked Tara had to return to fall back on singing and seeking money from people on auspicious occasions.
The movie targets the behavior of people towards transgender community, who are still avoided by the society, Nazim added. Varun said the movie would surely change the attitude of people towards transgender community and would help them in joining mainstream society.
The lead role is played by Chinmai Behra, a transgender artist of Bhuwaneshwar while Tina Ma of Kinnar Akhada has played role of Kinnar Guru. Pratima and another transgender are playback singers in the movie.
