UP FIRST STATE TO START HOME DELIVERY OF RATION

LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government has begun a scheme of home delivery of ration to the elderly, destitute, divyangs, people suffering from illness and also those who cannot go to the Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.

Giving this information, a government spokesman said the ration shop operators would supply the ration to the homes of these people. The officers of the food and civil supplies department and the local administration would monitor the entire process, he added.

“UP is the first state in the country to start such a scheme,” he claimed.

The scheme has been started in many districts of the state and, after identifying 8,577 beneficiaries, ration is being supplied to their homes even while a campaign is on to identify more such beneficiaries. “Besides, to make the PDS transparent and free of corruption, the government has digitised the process of distributing ration and increased monitoring,” the spokesman said.

He said the data of 11,000 fair price ration shops in the urban areas and 68, 850 fair price ration shops in the rural areas had been digitised.

The processes of distribution of ration in the rural, as well as the urban areas, have been linked with the E-PoS (electronic point of sale) machines and to put a check on corruption, the process has been linked with Aadhaar and OTP (one time password) authentication.

“According to the figures of the food and civil supplies department, over 3.33 crore transactions were done in November last year through E-PoS. In addition, more than 3.28 crore transactions were done (through) Aadhaar authentication which is 98.37%,” he claimed.
