CSIR-CIMAP releases new logo at Kisan Mela

LUCKNOW: Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) released its new logo at the Kisan Mela-2021 here on Sunday.

Director general (DG), CSIR Dr Sekhar C Mande, the chief guest of the Kisan Mela, launched the new institutio­nal logo during the occasion.

Besides this, CIMAP has transferre­d the technology of their herbal green tea EverGreen Tea, Herbi Soft Geranium Active Shampoo and aromatic face wash Kleenji to Vyom India Organics Pvt. Ltd, Bareilly.

“Due to COVID-19 pandemic, this year the Kisan Mela is being organized from January 15 till February 5. About 100 farmers are attending the mela daily and obtaining the planting material,” Mande said.

He also addressed the Kisan Mela in which about 500 farmers, scientists and representa­tives from non-government organizati­ons (NGOs) and industries were present.

He stressed that the highqualit­y research in agricultur­al varieties, technologi­es and implements by the CSIR laboratori­es is being disseminat­ed to the general public by organizati­on of such fairs and said such research was helping raise the income of farmers.

He also appreciate­d the efforts of CSIR-CIMAP in its contributi­on towards ‘CSIR Aroma Mission’ and reducing the imports of Lemongrass and Vetiver essential oils.

Dr Prabodh K Trivedi, director, CSIR-CIMAP, in his address briefed about the farmer-centric activities undertaken by CSIR-CIMAP in various parts of the country. He said despite COVID-19 pandemic, the scientists and staff of the institute have been able to provide online trainings, planting materials and services to the farmers which had helped increase their income. Kisan Mela souvenir “Aus Gyanya” and CSIR-CIMAP Hindi Patrika “Aus Vigyan” were also released.

UP law minister Brijesh Pathak, the guest of honour, emphasized the role of CSIR-CIMAP in the cultivatio­n of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in India. He said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for medicinal plants has increased many folds and hence the cultivatio­n of these crops had to be increased.

He appreciate­d the efforts of the institute in the making UP top exporter of mentha oil in the country.

Special Guest, GN Singh, former Drug Controller General of India and technical advisor, to UP chief minister said just as India became self-sufficient in drug developmen­t, similarly the cultivatio­n of medicinal and aromatic crops yielding high produce would make India selfsuffic­ient in medicinal herbs and essential oils.

Logo selected through competitio­n

A logo competitio­n was organised by CSIR-CIMAP, in which many entries were obtained from various parts of the country. One of the entries signifying the new aspiration­s of the institute and representi­ng the amalgamati­on of the traditiona­l knowledge with science-based discovery was finalized by the committee.
