PRAYAGRAJ: Against a target to vaccinate 9,541 frontline health workers, only 6,751 individuals (70.75%) could be vaccinated during the fifth round of phase-1 of Covid-19 vaccination, in Prayagraj, on Thursday.

For the task, 44 vaccination centres – 24 in rural areas and 20 in urban areas of the district – were set up. Between them they undertook 82 vaccination sessions, said Prayagraj chief medical officer Prabhakar Rai.

He said that nodal officers had been appointed for vaccination that took place from 9 am to 5pm at the designated centres. The allotted quota of vaccine doses were made available at the rural centres a day in advance while the urban centres received their allotted quota of the Covisheld doses two hours before the scheduled start of the vaccination process

Additional chief medical officer (Immunisation) Rishi Sahai, overseeing Covid-19 vaccination in the district, said that in the city areas, the vaccination centres included Motilal Nehru (Colvin) Divisional Hospital, MLN

Medical College, Dufferin Hospital, SRN Hospital, Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital, Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital, United medical College, Yashlok Hospital, Saket Hospital, Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Narayani Hospital, Nazareth Hospital, Jagriti Hospital and Asha Hospital among others.

In the rural areas, the vaccination centres included all community health centres including 11 in the trans-Ganga area and another nine in the trans-Yamuna area, he added.

Though officials claimed that the vaccination proceeded smoothly, many of their counterparts at vaccination centres complained of the problem of uploading data on the Co-Win portal yet again. They claimed that many health workers who had already got the jabs also received SMSs asking them to report to vaccination centres to get vaccinated. The team at the vaccination centres after checking the vaccination cards of such individuals then sent them back asking them to report on the date that their second and final dose was due.

Now on Friday, vaccination will take place at 38 centres in the district in 53 sessions. Besides, 3,320 health workers who have not got vaccinated in Phase-1, besides around 2,300 frontline workers of other government departments under Phase-2 will be vaccinated as part of the exercise.

On January 13, the district received the first batch of 32,150 doses of Covishield vaccine from Varanasi, and the second batch of around 26,000 doses of Covishield, arrived in the district on January 24.
