UPEIDA signs MoUs of Rs 4,500 crore for defence corridor
LUCKNOW : The state government on Friday signed 13 MoUs (memorandums of understanding) at Aero India 2021 Expo in Bengaluru to bring investment of Rs 4,500 crore to the UP Defence Industrial Corridor.
This investment will generate employment for around 8,945 people, said the state government in a statement issued on Friday. The three-day expo, which began on February 3, ended on Friday. The UP Expressways Industrial Development
Authority (UPEIDA) signed the MOUs with representatives of companies on behalf of the state government. UPEIDA signed MoUs with IAF, HAL, Naini Aerospace Ltd, BEML, Nitrodynamics Ltd, Kalyani Strategic Systems, SMPP, Maheshwari Wires, Royal Sales, Datum Composites, Anshu Metals, Optic Electronics, MKU, PTC and Saru Smelting.
SMPP Ammunition Manufacturing, the biggest investor of the lot, will pump in Rs 2,000 crore in the Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow and Jhansi nodes of the defence corridor.
For the defence corridor project, the state government has already notified six nodes: Jhansi, Aligarh, Agra, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow. UPEIDA is the nodal agency to execute the project. After directives from the state government, the Lucknow district administration has started locating government land in Sarojini Nagar, Mohanlalganj and Gosaiganj tehsils. PM Narendra Modi had announced the Rs 20,000 crore Defence Corridor project for Bundelkhand region of UP on February 21, 2018, during the investors’ summit in Lucknow.
