KANPUR : In the last two days, meetings of school managements with parents have seen 95% of people not agreeing to send their kids to school for classes 6 to 8 beginning from February 10 and classes 1 to 5 from March 1.

Schools have taken various measures in view of the Covid-19 situation, which include students being allowed to sit at a safe distance from each other, sanitisation of classrooms and screening of students twice.

At a school in Kamla Nagar, many parents reached school for the meeting. But only three of them consented to send their kids to school while the rest were still wary of the situation. The same was the scene at other schools in Kidwai Nagar and Saket Nagar, where parents were asked to give a signed consent form. Only a handful gave it, said school authorities.

Vanita Mehrotra, principal of Sheiling House School, said the institution was prepared to welcome the students back, but the parents had their concerns.

In government-run junior schools, arrangements were in the final stages. Basic education department officials visited schools to take stock of the arrangements such as sanitisation, availability of masks and seating arrangements.

Nand Kishore, principal of nagar nigam school in Nawabganj, said he received a machine for sanitising the classes.

A Class 8 student in Kakadeo school, Laskhya Varma, said he would go school if his parents permit it. “Online teaching is fair enough, but I want to go to school. I am not clear if I have to regularly or specific days in a week,” he added.

OFFICIALS VISITED GOVT SCHOOLS TO TAKE STOCK OF ARRANGEMENTS SUCH AS SANITISATION.
