LUCKNOW : No Covid death was reported in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, while there were 113 fresh cases.

Kasganj became the first district in the state that had no active Covid case while no fresh case was reported here. All Covid patients had been discharged from hospitals in the district after recovery, said officials.

A health department officer said 1,963 Covid cases and six deaths were reported in the district since the start of the Covid pandemic in March last year.

The recovery rate of Covid patients in UP was 98%. In the last 24 hours, 113 fresh Covid cases were reported, but there was no report of any case in 37 districts, said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary (health and family welfare).

The highest number of cases (12) was reported in Kanpur, followed by 11 in Lucknow, eight in Varanasi, six each in Muzaffaranagar and Sonbhadra, four each in Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Bulandshahr, Basti and Hathras, he said.

At present, there were 3,306 active Covid cases in UP, of which 908 patients were in home isolation, 332 in private hospitals and the remaining were admitted to government hospitals. The state’s death tally was 8,691 on Tuesday, he added.

Prasad said 1.15 lakh sample tests were conducted in laboratories across the state, taking the total tally of Covid sample tests to 2.89 crore. Health department teams surveyed 3.14 crore houses and 15.27 crore people across the state since the start of pandemic last year.

A state government spokesperson said regular surveillance in all 75 districts of UP, maximum sample tests and screening conducted by the state government not only brought down Covid cases, but also assisted in checking fatality.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath was regularly reviewing measures being taken by various government departments in checking the spread of Covid and treatment of patients.

Along with making people aware of the preventive measures, the state government constituted surveillance teams involving trained ASHA, Anganbari workers and ANMs to screen people in rural areas.

Digital interventions too helped in the fight against Covid. Integrated Covid Control and Command Center (ICCCC) was established in each district to monitor Covid cases. The state government also launched Covid centre application to assist people in the fight against the pandemic, he said.
