Priyanka Vadra to attend Kisan mahapanchayat in Saharanpur today
MEERUT : Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a Kisan mahapanchayat in Chilkana area of Saharanpur district on Wednesday. This will be the first Kisan mahapanchayat in west UP in which Priyanka Gandhi will participate and address farmers.
Giving this information, party’s district unit president Muzaffar Ali Gurjar said prior to it, she will offer prayers at Shakumbhari Devi Temple in Behat area then visit the dargah (mausoleum) of Shah Abdur Raheem in Raipur village.
The Congress had earlier planned a ‘Kisan Samvad’ prgramme at Gandhi Park in Saharanpur city on February 8 but the district administration denied permission citing availability of insufficient force to provide security and maintain law and order during the event. Ali said the message was conveyed to the Congress leader about the rescheduling of the programme.
He said the district administration had been informed about Priyanka Ganshi’s visit. “We were still waiting for officials’ response and the programme will take place as per the schedule even if they (administration) deny permission” Ali claimed.
Saharanpur is the lone district in the region where party has two MLAs. Party leader Naresh Saini is an MLA from Behat constituency and Masood Akhtar represents Saharanpur Dehat constituency in the state assembly.
Agitation is part of democracy: Jayant
AGRA : Vice president of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jayant Chaudhary on Tuesday said that ‘andolan’ (agitation) was the part of democracy and those sitting in power now had also paved their path to power through agitations.
He criticised the central government for being anti-farmer and urged farmers to be united barring any discrimination. Jayant’s remark came on the heels of Prime Minister’s ‘Andolanjivi’ statement in parliament on Monday.
Jayant, while addressing a ‘panchayat’ at Murbar village in Gonda town of Aligarh district on Tuesday, said, “Yes, we are ‘andolanjivi’ because it is an integral part of democracy. How can democracy survive, if common men cannot get on the road and ask questions?”
