LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the state government was following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ in Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of birth anniversary of Maharaja Suheldev in Bahraich.

Earlier Modi, through video conference, laid the foundation stone of Maharaja Suheldev memorial and Chittaura Lake. He also dedicated to the people a medical college named after Maharaja Suheldev.

Yogi performed ‘bhoomi pujan’ for the two projects there.

Yogi said the Prime Minister had laid foundation stone of the medical college four years ago and now he has dedicated it to the people, on its completion.

Yogi said the day (Tuesday) was important as besides being Basant Panchami, the people of the region had organised programmes to mark birth anniversary of Maharaja Suheldev, “who protected India and saved its culture from foreign intrud

Modi lauded chief minister Yogi Adityanath and his government for its help to farmers to ensure they did not face any problem during the Covid pandemic. He said the occasion of Basant Panchami had brought new hope for the people of the developing India, leaving behind the despair of the pandemic.

Modi used the occasion to point towards the way history had been written and said, “India’s history is also found in the folk tales told by one generation to the other… Unfortunately, many heroes who devoted their lives to save India did not get the place they deserved in history.

Those who made changes in the name of writing history did injustice. Today’s India is making corrections to set things right.”

“Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was the first Prime Minister of Azad Hind government. Did he or Azad Hind Fauj get the same importance they deserved? ...What was done to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who merged more than 500 princely states into India? ...Every Indian knows this well. Sardar Patel’s statue is the tallest in the world.

The statue of unity inspires all of us. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, who gave us the constitution and became the voice of the deprived and oppressed sections of the society, was seen through political glasses.

There are a number of such fighters whose contribution

was not recognised for various reasons. Can we forget what was done to heroes of Chauri Chaura…Same was done to Maharaja Suheldev,” said Modi.

“I got an opportunity to release a postal stamp in memory of Maharaja Suheldev in Ghazipur two year ago. I have now got an opportunity to lay foundation stone of his memorial,” Modi added.

Reacting to the PM’s speech, Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Surendra Rajput said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak about the present instead of future or history. “PM acts as a ‘Bhavishyajivi’ (future) or ‘Itihaasjivi’ (history) instead of talking of ‘Vartamanjivi’. PM should remember he is holding the office of Prime Minister of India and not working as an actor,” said Rajput.

Former Director of Giri Institute of Development Studies AK Singh said union government had been making efforts to malign the agitation of farmers right from the beginning.

He said both the advantages or fears about the farm laws were exaggerated and the PM should have soft attitude and speak to farmers to work out a compromise on the issue.
