Interfaith couple consume poison outside HC, woman dies

PRAYAGRAJ : An inter-faith couple from Hardoi, who had come here to apply for court marriage, consumed some poisonous substance outside the Allahabad high court premises on Wednesday after somebody reportedly told them that their marriage could not take place due to the new anti-conversion law. The woman died while undergoing treatment at SRN hospital late in the night, police said.

The youth’s condition was reported to be stable, SHO Kotwali inspector Vinod Kumar said and added that their kin had been informed about the matter and they were on the way to Prayagraj. Further details about the circumstan­ces under which they took the extreme step could be ascertaine­d after further investigat­ions, SHO further said.

The woman aged 24 and youth aged 28 had left their home around a week back to get married. The duo reached HC on Wednesday to apply for court marriage and met some lawyer, who reportedly told them that their marriage could not take place due to the new anti-conversion law. Depressed over the issue, the duo consumed some poisonous substance. They were taken to SRN Hospital by 108 ambulance staff. Cops at SRN police outpost called the woman’s kin who told police that an FIR of abduction had been lodged recently against the youth at Arwal police station of Hardoi.

Youth held for fraudulent­ly transferri­ng cash from his uncle’s account

Cops at cyber police station have arrested a youth who allegedly siphoned off Rs 6.14 lakh from the bank accounts of his maternal uncle after installing a software in his mobile and connecting it through a payment channel. Three ATM cards, smartphone, SIM cards and some other documents were recovered from his possession, police said. Incharge cyber police station inspector Rajeev Tiwari said former Subedar Major Gopal Singh had lodged an FIR in November last year in which he mentioned that cash over Rs 6.14 lakh were withdrawn from his two bank accounts fraudulent­ly by some unidentifi­ed fraudsters. Using available techniques, cyber experts traced the IP address of the fraudster and identified him as Anuj Singh of Gazipur district. Anuj was arrested from his present location in Gurgaon. Anuj informed police that Gopal Singh was his maternal uncle. Anuj connected the bank account details of Gopal Singh with Airtel Payment Bank. Anuj then generated UPI and installed a special software in his uncle’s mobile which enabled him to access his mobile remotely. Anuj then transferre­d the cash from his uncle’s account to another bank account. An FIR has been lodged against Anuj under sections 419/420 and 6C/D IT Act, Inspector Rajeev added.

LED lights stolen from Airport Road Unidentifi­ed miscreants have made off with hi-tech LED street lights that were installed for illuminati­ng Airport Road. It is alleged that 104 LED lights have been stolen during the last one and half months. Moreover, 25 LED lights were found missing from Rajruppur area as well. The cost of stolen lights is said to be Rs 10 lakh. It is believed that thieves took away the lights when winter was on its peak and roads were usually deserted during the nights. The Airport Road now remains in dark after sunset posing threat to commuters. The incident was brought to light by corporator of Om Prakash Nagar Akhilesh Kumar Singh. He claimed that all lights were stolen between December 15 and January 31. Electricit­y department in-charge at Nagar Nigam Surendrana­th Pandey said a complaint has been given at Dhumanganj police station in this connection.
